I understand that PowerPoint, if used carefully and artfully, can be an effective medium for communication.But it isn't taught that way. And it isn't (typically) used that way. PowerPoint is all about bells and whistles, about cheating about what you know. I'd much rather draw a picture on a blackboard, pass out handouts, and really communicate what I'm trying to say rather than relying on a technology that doesn't really convey what I mean.
Being a great orator is just one of those lost great art forms. More and more people rely on things such as powerpoint to speak for them. I feel blogs do provide a greater service as you may post as much as you like and if people show enough interest they can read it. Not like those grueling powerpoint presentations when someone has a topic you don't necessarily agree with or have an interest in.
